How MidgeBlaster can help garden users

My name is Juliet Caird. I am a veterinary surgeon and suffer from organophosphate (pesticide) poisoning. As a result of this, I cannot use chemical insect repellents or pesticides on myself or animals. There is a very high midge population where I live and this was obviously a huge problem to us

I bought a MidgeMaster last year, mainly to protect my grazing animals as they could not hide indoors for the evening and night and were being tortured by the midges. The machine has worked extremely well for this purpose. Within days we noticed a great improvement due to the reduction in midge numbers. There was a further improvement after a month as a result of the interruption in the midge breeding cycle. As a result of last year’s use, this year began with a lower initial hatch of midges than previous year.

Although placed to give maximum protection to our yard and paddocks, we were delighted to find that the MidgeMaster also protects our garden and vegetable plot. It was previously unbearable to do gardening during the summer evenings. Since purchasing the MidgeMaster, we can now spend any summer evening we choose outside, in peace from the midges. We can do gardening, play boules, have barbecues or simply enjoy the weather outside.

I was so impressed by the MidgeMaster that I told a lot of animal owners about it and I have now become an agent for the company, selling the machine to be used for a multitude of purposes.

MidgeBlaster’ tips for the use of the MidgeMaster in the garden

Which model should you choose?
If midges are a nuisance and the garden is not big, then the MidgeMaster Defender, currently our bestseller ( over 200,000 sold worldwide since March 2003), is the answer. It is the most affordable unit and covers up to half an acre. It runs on propane and must be plugged into the mains (low voltage 50 foot electricity cable).
This model can potentially catch up to 250,000 midges per day.

If midges are a real problem or just a nuisance but your garden is very big, then the MidgeMaster Liberty Plus is the model for you. This unit covers up to an acre. It runs on propane and does not need to be powered from mains electricity. This gives more flexibility in the positioning of the trap to achieve maximum benefit. It has a larger insect collection net than the Defender model and has been proven to be able to catch up to a million midges in a day.

If the midge situation is desperate in your garden, or for commercial use, the MidgeMaster Pro or Pro Plus are the models to help you. They are incredibly effective midge catchers. They generate their own electricity by use of solar panels and do not require a mains lead.

The MidgeMaster Pro model was the best selling midge trap in the UK in 2003, being capable of catching over 3 million midges in 24hours. This model protects up to 1.25 acres.

The MidgeMaster Pro Plus model is the ultimate midge trap, protecting up to 1.5 acres.

Positioning of the MidgeMaster for maximum midge catch rate
Place the MidgeMaster between the main source of midges (wet area) and area to be protected so the midges are attracted to the machine before they reach you. Remember, also, that the attractant is blown downwind and midges fly upwind for a meal. If the machine does not appear to be very effective initially, do not despair. Simply try relocating the machine and you will probably be delighted with the results.

Operation of the MidgeMaster
Follow the manufacturer’s simple instructions, particularly remembering to replace the octenol when due (every 21days), as this is a powerful midge attractant. We advise you to record the renewal dates on your calendar.

Remember that if you stand beside the MidgeMaster, you are likely to transport a few midges, from the machine, away with you. While this will only be a temporary nuisance, it is preferable to check the machine at times of day when there are fewer midges about.

Testimonial
‘Two years ago, we sold our cottage. It was beside a wood near Dumfries in the west of Scotland. In July this year, I visited the new owner at the cottage. She cooked a meal and, at 8.30pm, suggested we eat outside. I was very concerned as I knew from previous bitter experience that it was impossible to sit outside in that garden on a July evening as the midges would eat us alive. I was most surprised, and relieved, to find that there were very few midges at all and we had an untroubled meal. I would have loved to have been able to enjoy myself outdoors in the summer evenings when I lived there and, had I known about the MidgeMaster, I would certainly have purchased one.’ Maurice Benson, Cumbria
